"Cyrano"
is now Duncan.
When I saw these two photos after I took them today, I knew that it was time to send in Cyrano's success story for the website. He looks like a collie again! Duncan is such a happy boy! He now weighs in at 63 pounds! When he isn't laying in his favorite spot on the couch with his head on the arm, he likes to protect us by standing on the loveseat, barking at people passing by (although he stops when I thank him and tell him that everything is okay). He follows me if I leave the room, and he can't see me anymore. He and Connar love to run and play together, both inside the house and in the backyard. I cannot thank Tri-State Collie Rescue enough for saving Duncan from such a terrible fate, nursing him back to health, and allowing me to adopt both of these sweet, loving angels who fill my life with such joy! Since they are both TSCR boys, I figured that sending in pictures with both of them would be fitting, but I've sent in one of him in his favorite spot as well. Thank you!
Duncan is standing on the right in the first picture and sitting on the left looking to the left in the second.
"Diva"
is now TRINITY (she is already responding to her new name!!) I
had long ago decided that I was going to name my new dog GRADY (regardless of
gender). Grady was a combination of my 2 grandmothers name and my Mom's
nickname GRACE/ADA/EDDY. I had told my family of my planned
name and they all liked it. Then 2 days before I left for Louisville the
name TRINITY came to me in a dream and I was very conflicted, so I decided to
wait until I met "Diva" to decide. Well when I saw
that sweet tri collie using three legs and getting along just fine and as happy
and sweet as could be I knew it had to be TRINITY. You see, I have 2 bad
knees and eventually will need to get replacements...sometimes I get down about
not being able to do the things that I used to.well now that I have TRINITY
I think her "can do" attitude will rub off on me!!
TRINITY is such a joy...she was so good in the car and we bonded right away.
She is settling well in my condo...no accidents..no chewing (except on her
toys). I brought her to my friends house and she played with their collie
and shepherd mix. She wore them out...she is so fast!! She loves
everyone and is very adaptable and calm (even in new surroundings)
She has stolen my heart!!!
Thank you all to Tri State Collie Rescue for all that you do for these wonderful
dogs!!

Meet Hope,
Hope was turned into rescue when the owner went
into war. Hope now lives in Chicago with Father White and the two of them
have become ever lasting companions.
Lennon has been such a good boy so far. On the way home we stopped and met
Uncle Lances collies and their daughters pug-like-dog (rescue of some kind of
pug min pin mix). His Joey is huge and was very pushy and Lennon just let
him.
We came home and did the meet and greet one at a time in the fenced yard
before coming in. My big dog did his sniffing last night and just wants to go
about his business of chewing his rope and laying on the couch...he's an old
man and would just prefer to be left alone. He tolerates the pup coming
up and sniffing, I think he understands that he's young.
My poms are being very much brats...Koko has been hiding under the table most
of the time, except to lunge out growling once in a while. Rosie goes about
her business, but Lennon has come up on her when she's been drinking or just
come up by surprise and she's gone after him a bit. They're the ones I worried
about...but it takes time. I told mom it's going to be tense around here the
first week or so, til they know he isn't going to hurt them. He's so huge...I
said he's a big scary white monster. He's handling it ok...Rosie growled at
him a little while ago and he dropped his front legs down like "are we
gonna play now??"
I got mine a few new toys and gave them to them as a distraction after we got
home last night...and of all the toys in the toybox, he decided he liked
Rosies new big white bone best. Hopefully Rosie will come around and realize
he is just like Emmy, but younger, and will start to play.
Takin it one day, and one growl, at a time.
Kathy
Henry
Thank you all for allowing us to adopt Henry! He went to
the Vets Friday & got a clean bill of health & current with all his
shots! He has a SWEET personality & is getting daily walks &
exercise & learning his commands. He is great in the car on trips. We
took him to the pet store Saturday for a few treats & he was fascinated with
the cagged birds. He & Kepi (The Cat) are slowly getting use to one another
although Kepi is still trying to figure Henry out! Thanks again will keep you
posted. Kevin & Kim
Maggie
& Sydney
The attached pictures are of my pair of rescued collies. The first is Maggie (3 years old) who my vet turned over to me after her previous owners brought her in to have her put down because she had a broken
hip and leg. My vet's office performed the needed surgery and I worked her
through the physical therapy. She's now been with me for 2 years, is completely
healed, loves to run and play, and is a delight (although a bit overly
enthusiastic to greet new people). The second picture is of Sidney
(Carter) who I adopted from TSCR amost exactly one year ago. He was a stray, found at
a shelter by TSCR. He's about 5 years old. When I first brought him home,
he was underweight and had very scraggly fur. A year later with lots of
TLC, he's gained nearly 20 pounds and his coat is soft and filling in
nicely. Sidney has major allergies -- but working with the doggie dermo
we discovered the right combinations of food and meds to make him feel
better and grow fur. He's a darling. He's loving, devoted and one of the
kindest creatures I've ever encountered. Maggie and Sidney are a terrific
"brother and sister" duo. They play and romp and run and
completely enjoy each other. Thank you to TSCR for Sidney (Carter). I
often check out the TSCR website to see how many dogs are available, am
thankful that TSCR has taken them in and hope they all find
wonderful homes.

Duke
Hi,
Just wanted to let you know, Duke is adapting well and he is an awesome dog! He
is very well mannered and I am really surprised how easy it was to adjust him to
his new home. He is such a sweetheart and loves to play outside. He is
fascinated by the house rabbit and the other day he was 'herding the one horse.'
I couldn't get him to stop-he was chasing him all over the pasture-finally
I caught the horse and then I was able to catch him. I was afraid of him getting
kicked, but I guess that's what they were bred to do, and they have that
instinct to herd. It was kind of funny to watch but a little nerve racking at
the same time. Duke says "Happy Easter"
Jeb
Here he lived with a deaf family and was turned into rescue because they had
to move and he NOW has gone to a training facility to be an assistant
companion dog for the deaf. How great was that. Happy Ending.

Tyler
I adopted my first Collie in 1993 and he was 7.5 yrs
old…the product of divorce.I
lost him 10 years ago.I adopted a
9 mo old female Collie 6 years ago.Emma
was dumped in an outdoor run of a shelter over night. She was cow hocked and I think whoever dumped her thought she had hip
dysplasia.Running with my three
then 8 yr old Greyhounds strengthened her legs and you’d never know she had
any problems.I lost two of my
Greys and Emma is now 7 yrs old.I
love Collies and have always wished I could experience a Collie pup but told
myself that would never happen as I am a rescue person at heart and could never
“buy” one.I was in Greyhound
rescue and adoption for 7 years so I know how important rescue is.It’s rare to find a Collie puppy in rescue and as soon as they come in,
there’s usually a waiting list for them.
6
month Tyler
Then came Tyler.Tyler had “special needs” according to his bio.He was born blind in one eye and had some seizures already at the tender
age of 4 mos.On the site along
with “Tyler” were two Collies…one named “Cole” and one “Holly”.Those were the names of my two Greys who passed within the last two years
and my remaining 15 yr old Grey’s name is “Taylor”.My Greyhound Cole also was a seizure dog and Holly had special needs as
well.I knew it was a sign from
above and this was “meant to be”.I
adopted Tyler in September of 2007 at the age of 4.5 mos.He is 6 mos old in these updated photos and is truly a blessing in every
way.His eye specialist discovered
that he was born without a retina so because of this, he will never have pain in
that eye and it will not have to be removed. He seized once while with me and went on a very low dose of Pheno. He has been seizure-free ever since. My holistic vet is working in
conjunction with my traditional vet and has him on several natural supplements
to help strengthen his system in the hopes he can eventually come off the Pheno
altogether.Tyler is perfect and
normal in every way….and BIG.He
weighs 60 lbs at 7 mos of age.He
has a big heart and a large “presence” so he needs a big body to house all
the love he has within. He is definitely “special” and has blessed my life
in many ways as well as the lives of my other furkids. We all love him and are grateful we were chosen to be his forever family.God works in mysterious ways and Tyler is truly a gift from
above and one I will treasure forever.Thank
you Tri-State Collie Rescue for saving him, not giving up on him and trusting
his life with me.And thank you
Foster Mom Kim for loving him and protecting him.You will always be his Godmother to me!
Blessings…………..

When I began looking for a collie to adopt last year, Tara’s picture did not catch my eye on the website and I passed right over it.
I already had a very playful beagle and after a meeting with one of Tara’s puppies did not go well, it was suggested that we meet Tara.
I liked Tara right away and Bandit seemed to like her as well so I brought her home. I can not begin to tell you how happy I am that
I did. When she first came home with me, Tara did not have much confidence. She wouldn’t walk up the stairs, jump on the bed or
couch and sudden movements startled her. Her coat was also very short. In the year she has been with me her coat has grown in
beautifully and her confidence has grown. She is the perfect playmate for my beagle and now has no trouble bounding up and down
the stairs or up onto the couch to cuddle. She follows me everywhere and will not leave my side if I am upset. I have been
taking agility classes with her since a few months after I brought her home and she is great at it. She is very fast and if
I get too serious at practice, she tries to make me laugh. We attended our first trial in October and did very well. She
placed 4th in one of the classes, missing a qualifying score by only a few seconds. We’re going to work towards earning
agility titles together and possibly try herding after that. I can’t believe that she’s only been a part of our family for
a year. We all love her and are so glad that we found her.
I wanted to let Tristate Collie Rescue know that Cody
(now Connar) is doing fine and fitting into our family
as if he has always been here. I am often surprised
when I think about the fact that he has only been with
us for a little over a year. It seems as if he has
always been with us. I've attached a picture of him
to go along with the update:
Connar (formerly Cody) came home with us in April of
2006, so it has been a little over a year that he has
been a part of our lives, and we feel so lucky to have
such a sweet, loving, playful boy with us! He
blossomed a little more each day that we have had him,
playing a bit more, exploring a bit more, and
following me around a bit more. Now he follows me
wherever I go (unless he's having a nap in his
favorite spot next to my side of the bed) and lays
down near me. Even if I'm washing dishes at the
kitchen sink, he lays directly behind me to keep my
ankles warm! He loves to run and play in the backyard
with our 11-year-old tri-color collie, Eddie. He gets
along beautifully with our three cats and our two
boys. Some things haven't changed over the last
year--he still likes to take his own sweet time to
come in the house after being outside, and he is still
the sweetest, most loving boy! The changes that we
have seen are for the better--he is much more outgoing
and loves to jump on the couch for a cuddle. He eats
well, and I no longer have to worry about whether or
not he will eat his breakfast and dinner. He has
filled out nicely to 53 pounds. He enjoys meeting new
people so that he can get even more attention! He
loves laying in mud puddles and getting as many sticks
and leaves attached to his hair as he can, but he
doesn't mind when I wash off the mud and brush out the
yard mess. He comes running for a hug when I come
home from work. He loves to lick toes and run around
the house for no apparent reason, leaping over
anything that happens to be in his path. I could write
a book on all of the things that he does that make him
so special and make me love him so very much. I am so
thankful to have him as part of our family, and I
can't thank you enough for suggesting him as the
collie for us.
Sincerely,
Charli
Morgan's success story to follow soon.
I wanted to give you an update on Cosmo. My husband
and I adopted him a few months ago from you. He is a
wonderful dog and a great addition to our family. The
minute he walked in our door he knew he was home. He
loves playing with our other collie but most of all he
loves our 5 month old baby boy. Cosmo is always at his
side making sure he is ok. He is such a loving dog.
Thank you for rescuing him and bringing him into our
lives. All of your hard work is greatly appreciated. I
attached some photos...
Take care,
Kari
Hello, i was just sending these two pictures as an update on Brady. I adopted
him back in April , as you can see he went from a small puppy to a pretty big boy
in such a small time. We love our boy very much, he has acclimated to the family very
well. He loves his little baby boy too... He sleeps at the foot of my 2 1/2 yr old sons bed. HE
won't budge, and when people are moving around in the am he is watching carefully to make sure no one touches his baby. MY son calls him MI MI , so Brady has learned two names form himself
but i don't think he much minds having two names as R.J. shares everything with Brady, he makes sure that 'mi mi ' has a treat if he is getting one, he makes sure he has a blanket and pillow if it is sleeping time, and he shares all his love and kisses too.
When i adopted him they were thinking that he may be mixed not a full blood collie. I look at him all the time and I can only see Collie in him, he has the temperament , the markings , the facial structure, the only funny thing he does is howl, we can't figure out why he dose it, i think instead of barking (it is rare to hear Brady bark) he howls to let us know to let him back in the house .
I want to thank you ladies for all that you do , I love Brady so much and my household just wouldn't be the same with out him .
Melisa
Jules was adopted back in Dec/Jan time frame.
She's put on some weight, the coat's grown in.
And she's become spoiled rotton.
Jules has the lighter head color.
This is the one-year anniversary of Shae (aka Lacie) coming to live with
Caelan (tri) and me. They have become best buddies and spend much of every
day chasing and wrestling in the back yard. Shae has a favorite spot under a
tree where, rain or shine, she'll lay for hours, watching for any squirrel
that is brave enough to venture into her space. Shae (I call her Shae
Butter) is a very sweet and sociable girl and every walk with her is a meet
and greet. She wants to say hi to each human and dog we encounter. The
question I always get is, "What kind of dogs are they?" which is usually
followed by a comment about the size of their noses and then something like
"I didn't know there were short-haired collies. They're beautiful." (I think
we represent the breed well to those who are not acquainted with smoothies.
:-) Friendliness just oozes out of every pore; both girls bark when someone
is walking by the house or comes to the door, and they sound intimidating,
but they are inviting the strangers in, not trying to chase them away. Shae
is a great traveling partner and we've made the trip up to New York to visit
family several times. She seems to fit right in and is comfortable in almost
any situation. It has been suggested that she would make a great therapy
dog, which I am considering. As much as Shae likes to be on the go, she also
can be quite the couch potato, sometimes going to bed at 8pm and not getting
up until I coax her outside, after much stretching and loud yawning, ten or
twelve hours later. She's also a snitch and likes to sneakily grab
unprotected items like paper towels and shred them. When caught in the act
of something bratty, all it takes is saying her name gently with that "you
should know better" tone and she stops whatever it is that she's doing and
comes directly over for some (she feels) much-deserved petting. She's
definitely a prize, Sharon and Debbie, I wanted to take this opportunity of
our anniversary to thank you for letting me adopt Shae. She is a wonderful
addition to our home.
Stacy is doing wonderful! Olivia's preschool had "share your pet month" and Stacy got to go to preschool.
Olivia answering classmate's questions like "what do you feed her?"
Classmates get to pet Stacy
Stacy was a perfect girl. We have taken her jogging a couple times and she is the best dog I have ever had jog w/me. She doesn't pull on the leash, or bark at lawn mowers, bicycles or other dogs! Thanks for letting us adopt her. She has so much energy that I think she enjoys being in a family w/kids. There's always lots to do. And she has lots of toys to chew-ha. It is like I am back in baby proofing stage.
We love her -thanks
Hello I wanted to let you know how Peyton is doing. I got Peyton from you back in October. He is doing great. We even had his picture taken with Santa at Christmas. He has gained about 20 pounds since I adopted him and he is a joy to have around. My Pom loves him too. She would not know what to do with out him. They are best friends. When I walk Peyton which is about everyday somone always stops me and wants to pet him. Jocelyn my Pom got real sick a couple weeks ago and had to have emergency surgery. When I brought her home Peyton would not let anyone around her he was protecting her. I thought that was so cute. He is a joy to have.

Here's Scout with his new sister Sadie!
Take a look at our latest three collies from yet another puppy mill located in Indiana. These pictures represent the success story of volunteers working together to bring the rescues to a safe environment.
There are also three 4 week old male puppies that came in with this group, and everyone is doing just great. The tri (is the mom (Marie) and the sable is the daddy (Tyler).
Hello and Merry Christmas. We adopted LeRoy (formerly Mike) last May. It is
wonderful having a collie once again in our home. LeRoy is like none of the
previous six collies I have lived with. But, then again, each has been
unique. LeRoy likes to spend more time alone than any other dog we have had,
but is loving, gentle and easy-going. He is also protective of me and our
home. He has now accompanied me to seven different grade schools this year to
either read Lassie Come Home or The Christmas Collie to classrooms of
children. In his previous life he must have lived with children as he
absolutely loves them and is so patient and tolerant of even large groups of
them. He also must have spent alot of time outdoors in his previous home as
he really perks up on walks, digging in the brush, doving into the bushes and
leaves. LeRoy still will not come directly when called. Rather, he waits a
while, and then will siddle up slowly to me. I wonder if he had a "shock"
collar on in his previous life and was shocked when called. So much to wonder
about his former life that we will never know for sure. We just hope he is as
happy here as we are to have him. We are so glad to have him with us and
thankful we found your website. We appreciate you working with us to bring a
collie into our home.
Happy holidays to all of you great people at Tri-State Collie Rescue.

Hi everyone! Just wanted you all to know what a joy Archie-now Riley, is!
He has joined our family in a completely smooth & easy way. He is so sweet & such a good listener. He was completely housebroke, walks well on a leash, knows how to sit & gets along great with our other two dogs. He doesn't know a stranger & is very affectionate. I never imagined it would be this easy! We love him very much! Bless all of you & all your hard work for these wonderful dogs!!
Molly
We just adopted Cory who is now Chewy thanx to my son & daugher! Chewy is
very lovable and has adjusted more quickly than we have to his new home!
We love him to death and reciprocates the affection. He's also a talker,
too!
I'm sending pictures of how the trip home was, how he gets along
beautifully w/my 6 yr old daughter and one where he meets our Sheltie,
Nestle. Nestle is coming around, but he's also 12 and has been "man" of
the house for the last 2 yrs. This was such a wonderful opportunity and we
hope to have more Collies in the future!
Thank you -- Wendy, Noblesville, IN
Everything is going really good with Fawn. She is a wonderful dog. My little one really has a lot of fun playing ball with her and tug-of-war. She has adjusted perfectly. We enjoy and cherish her. She still loves hanging out on the porch or under our big tree. We found she likes chasing rabbits and squirrels. I just wanted to let you know how she was doing. Thank you so much for doing what you do and allowing me and my kids the share our life with Fawn. God bless you.
Kimberly and family
Dear Sharon:
I just wanted to let you know that Scott and I are ecstatic to have Eliza (now known as Zoe) with us. She is incredibly smart and well-trained and has really "blossomed" since we brought her home almost three weeks ago. She is very affectionate, loves to play ball, is friendly to visitors to our home, and is adjusting well to the Invisible Fence. Again, thanks to Tri-State Collie Rescue and you for rescuing her and making her available to us for adoption.
Elisabeth
Apache (we now call him Tristan and he knows that name REALLY well :-)
is doing great! We took him to Petsmart two weeks ago on a "shopping
trip" and he had a blast! So much to sniff! He loves our cats, and the
foster cats at Pestmart loved him too...the one reached its paw out of
the cage to play with him, and Tristan was all into that :-) We bought
him some shampoo, coat conditioner, treats, toys and all kinds of fun
stuff. Gave him a bath later and used that coat conditioner on him and
WOW! His fur is so soft and shiny now!!! He KNOWS he's one handsome
pup and loves to be brushed.
He'll be a wonderful therapy dog...I need to do more obedience training first
though. I took him to visit the people I work with at one of the
ambulance companies a couple weeks ago...they were so impressed with
what a polite guy he is! They have doggie treats there, and when he
realized they were getting them out, he sat down immediately and took
the treat SO GENTLY from their hands :-) Next week he'll accompany me
to my Search & Rescue meeting, and meet some of the SAR dogs. They
should have a good time. I'm also hoping to do some SAR work with him,
and maybe some fire prevention in schools for little kids.
Anyway, I'll send some more pix!
Later,
Deb
That picture of the costumed collies made my day. I have smiled all day thinking about them smiling
in their little costumes. Thanks for making my day. I have emailed it to all my friends (whether they
have collies or not :)). My collie boy has an Elvis costume since he is the "king" around here.
Thanks again,
Meg Spear
Hello. I am a big fan of your website and organization. I have adopted a
sheltie from Precious Secrets, but always check out your collies. Your
organization does an amazing job! Tonight, I had tears in my eyes when I saw
the Happy Halloween picture on your "available dogs" page. It is the funniest,
cutest photo I have seen in a long time.
Thanks for sharing it!
Laura
Sharon,
I am Robin. I just adopted a puppy from you. He is the most wonderful thing that has happened to us in awhile. His name is "TYRUS". I know his two brothers have not been adopted as of yet. I cannot imagine why. It was such a hard decision between the three of them. This pup is wonderful. He is so smart. He has only had one accident, and he cry s when he needs to go outside. Just to let you know...you made the right choice to let us adopt him! He is so sociable. I went to two of my friends house (whom have dogs) he got along great with them. He is great with people! I would like to thank you for the priveledge of adopting Tyrus. Me and the kids Love him so much. THANK YOU,
Robin
PS> If the other pups cant get to a good home soon, let me know.
Hi everyone, My name is Karen and I'm a dog groomer. I worked at Superpetz for
several years and groomed a beautiful Collie named Beethoven. For the past year or
so I have been visiting the tristatecollie rescue web site and wishing I could adopt one.
Beethovens owner told me that he was going to have to find a new home for him.
I told him about the rescue site and that I would love to have him if I could talk my
hubby into it. I waited about a month and a half to hear from his owner. I went back
to work at a veterinarians office where I used to be a vet assistant. They called me and
wanted me to come back and be the pet groomer there. Its a wonderful place to work
and the pay is better so I went. I figured that Beethovens owner either decided to keep
him or couldn't find me. I hadn't visited the collie rescue web sit in a while because I had
found my perfect collie. Since I hadn't heard anything about my Beethoven I decided to
look at the rescue site again. You could have heard me scream 100 miles away when
I saw that my Beethoven had been turned in as a rescue. I contacted the rescue
immediately. They did a background check and about a week later my boy and
I were together. The volunteer people at the rescue are wonderful and really work
their buts off to take care of these dogs. We are a happy family and love each other
very much. It was meant to be. I will be sending pictures in of us and hopefully they
can put them on the web. Karen
Hi Mary,
I just wanted to update you on the happily married couple. Elvis & Cassie are inseparable. They absolutely love each other. Elvis is so protective of Cassie. He cleans her fur like a puppy. He has even slimmed down some. He's still large, but not near as large as when we picked up Cassie. I have to say, collies are so much better in pairs. They keep each other company while their humans are away.
We went to Florida this summer, and my sister stayed at the house with the dogs. They walked the halls, searching the house for us. They were so excited when we came home. I am so glad that they had each other.
Thank you for finding Cassie for us. We all love her so much. My little Mikey (MRDD - age 5) can not wait to get home from the baby-sitters house to see the dogs. Every night he says 'when we get home can I pat your Cassie, she's so pretty, I love her.'
Thanks again for doing what you do.

A RESCUED COLLIE (Annie) SAVES ANOTHER DOG:
I rescued Annie in April 2003 from Tri-State Collie Rescue and she is a great dog; we love her to pieces. I have to share my story with the rescue.
I live in a small town and every small town has an old dog that has the run of the place. This old dog has been known to lie on our porches or lay in our driveways. Not that I agree with this dog running loose; but I doubt anything could keep her from making her rounds. Annie doesn't like our town dog much and barks like crazy whenever she's in our front yard, etc.
About a month ago, I was taking Annie to my sister's farm and I put her in the backseat of my car. Annie rides very nice and she always jumps right in and immediately lays down for the ride. Well, this particular evening she didn't.
Annie was literally running back and forth and barking like I have never heard her bark before. She just would not quiet down. I told Annie "No Bark" and she was still raising the roof on my car. Annie was almost rocking my car.
I turned to the left and seen the beginning of a dog's face and ears coming from the back of my car. The town dog was lying behind my car and I did not see her. However, Annie knew she was back there and wanted me to know it too.
If not for Annie, Bailey would not be with us now; because I would have backed my car out and hit her. It is so wonderful to know that our collie is taking care of her family members and her enemies. ;-)
Annie is the boss of her yard and she still barks like mad when Bailey is in our front yard; but she has proven that she is all bark and no bite. And we wouldn't have Annie any other way.
I just want to take the opportunity to thank the organization
for my good luck to adopt my wonderful companions, Blaze and Zach.
(They are by my feet by my computer right now)
I dont feel they are the "fortunate" ones because
they got adopted, I feel I am the "fortunate" one to
be owned by both of them!!
They are doing so well, Zach is
gaining weight everyday and is a very big boy..(he will be
neutered in 2 weeks, as the vet said he needed to gain some
weight and his back legs needed to straighten a little yet)
Blaze has just bloomed and loves his brother Zach and all the
family; but he is a real "moma's boy" We are doing obedience
classes in a few days here..Blaze already has that pretty much
down; and we went to an agility class already and got tired
(not them, ME!) We take walks down a beautiful trail almost
every evening and the collies really look forward to that!
Thanks to Sharon and all the staff for giving me and the
family a chance to be owned by these big and sweet boys!
Sincerely, Donna
Dear all ya wonderful people at Tri state Collie Rescue:
I cannot find enough kind words to thank ya for helping me find a perfect
home for Buddy. I only wish you could have seen Marie's face when she saw
him, or felt her hug me and say "thank ya," before she left. I holy hope
this small donation will help another collie find a happy ending.
I strongly believe that there is only one reason to breed dogs: TO BETTER THE
BREED. Not only in conformation, but temperament, health, and intelligence.
Only the best should be bred, and the rest placed, sterilized, in loving,
responsible homes. I also believe since the breeder brought the puppy into
the world, they should be responsible for it until it leaves'...........there
are way to many homeless pets out there to be breeding irresponsibly. For
this reason, I will donate money from the sale of puppies I do not keep to
TSCR.
Thanks again! This world needs more people like you!
My story of my Collie and I meeting starts quite some time ago, when I as a sheltie breeder realized that my oldest sheltie, who over the course of her life had become my children's "guardian angel" wasn't going to be with us forever. Shelby turned 13 years old this past March, and is having some trouble with fungal infections on her feet and with hip dysplasia, as well as being very arthritic. Shelby's condition isn't going to get any better...which I am very sad to admit.
But, on a happier note, I have always heard that Collies have a natural draw for children and sometimes their instincts for the safety of children can be stronger than that of the sheltie. I decided to start looking at Collies, specifically rescued Collies. I located the Tri State Collie Rescue website and just started watching the available dogs. My favorite color in the sheltie is the blue merle, so I was hoping to find a blue merle Collie female. Needless to say, I watched and watched and watched the website and nothing that fit my criteria came available. It was either a male, which I was afraid would fight with my sheltie males, or a dog that hadn't been around other dogs or children, or I thought it was the wrong color by not being a blue merle. I continued to watch, checking the site several times a week and at some points several times each day to see if any new dogs were added.
At some point, I noticed what seemed to be a very nice tri color Collie female. I continued to watch to see if she found a good home. Over the course of 6 weeks this dog was still sitting on this site and the little story about her expressed that no one was interested. I was sooo shocked, because she just seemed so perfect and so pretty to me. I called and asked about her. I was assured that nothing was wrong with her except when taken in at the Warren Co. shelter/humane society...she had been shaved to skin. Her coat had not grown back in yet, so she looked like a Smooth Collie, not the Rough she was supposed to be.
I was encouraged to come look at her. So, I set an appointment for the following Sunday, thinking that would give me time to "break the news to my husband." Well, I forgot about it until Sunday, and realized that I had to tell him quickly as I was supposed to leave soon to go see this dog and I didn't want "divorce papers" if I came home with a new dog. So, I called my husband to my computer and showed him this dog's picture and told him her story. I told him that I had been watching this dog for 6 weeks and no one wanted her. His response was one I did not expect...He told me to "go look at her. That it wasn't fair to the dog, that no one wanted her as pretty as she was." So, without telling our 4 children, and yet wanting to test the dog with kids, I took my oldest daughter who was 7 at the time with me.
When we arrived I met with Meri and she brought this girl outside to visit with us in an enclosed fenced area. I had been told that she was being called, "Sadie", which didn't quite seem to fit her. Then, Meri told me to try calling her Angel...I did and she very happily came right to me. Then, I told my daughter to try to play with her..."ANGEL" followed my daughter around this area...chasing her and very carefully watching her every move. I was so thrilled!!! Of course by this time, my daughter was begging to take her home. We discussed the details and due to the director having surgery...Angel was offered to come home with us that very day, which she did!! She now lives out in the country with 4 kids aging from 11 years down to 4 years old. She has a kennel of shelties to "babysit" along with the kids and she is doing a great job!! We have grown very attached and look forward to having this, Tri color Collie female, which no one wanted because of her being shaved, and who I thought was the wrong color for what I wanted, to be with us for a very long time and she is definitely our very special ANGEL!!
Sincerely,
The Huddlestons, Mistycreek Shelties, and Angel!
A happy ending for our puppy mill pup - they are the best buds.
My collie story began ten months ago, after my
beautiful Sheltie girl Jessie passed away from cancer.
I browsed the World Wide Web and found Tri-State Collie
Rescue in Ohio, and just fell in love with two Collies
on the site. So, in March of 2003 I adopted Breezey.
She is the love of my life. She is such a smart,
obedient girl, that just craves attention. In May of
2003 my other Sheltie Sandy passed away from kidney
failure. Breezey (that I renamed Callie) missed
Sandy's company. In December I was ready to adopt
another Collie, but I wanted to find a mahoganey sable
who resembled my Jessie that had passed away
previously. Laura, who works at Tri-State, took the
time and thought of me enough to notify Sharon
(at the shelter) of my wishes. Sharon was kind enough
to let me adopt one of her Collies she owned-a
beautiful little mahoganey sable girl. I can't thank
you enough, Sharon and Laura, for giving me the chance
to adopt my two beautiful girls. My loss of my
shelties will never be forgotten, but you sure have
helped fill the hole in my heart that I had. My
experience with you has been so rewarding.
Thanks So Much,
SCOTT
Hey! My name is Sarah Malick and I am just writing to give you all an update on my collie Princess that I adopted over a yr ago. She is doing SO well and is having the best time with her "little brother" Sampson the great dane. Boy does she ever keep him in line. We went byebyes yesterday and since they feel the need to be together all the time, Princess jumped from the back of my station wagon into the backseat with Sampson. They rode the last 20 minutes of the ride home sitting side by side in the back seat of the escort wagon. They are too funny together. Princess likes to bark and herd the horses in at night for me when I go to feed them. She feels like she is doing her job and once they are all in the stalls she gets all happy looking as if she is saying: "Hey mom did ya see me i did good!" Sampson on the other hand doesnt do much helping around here and Princess tends to look at him like "Wow I love ya but are you really that dumb?" They have a true brother sister relationship. Princess is SO prtective of him that not even I can have a wrestling match and get rough with him because right away she starts barking and will run up behind ya and nip at ur legs. She doesnt want anyone or anything but her messing with her Sammy. I just wanted to give the rescue an update on how well my girl is doing. She is happy and sassy and full of a zest for life. She is a true Blessing!

From the entire Trapp family, including Zoey:
A great Big thank you to everyone that help get our little girl home to us.
You have made our dream come true and have brought back the smile to our
youngest son Pen. He has been experiencing a very tough time with dyslexia
and the resent loss of a very close Grandfather due to cancer. You are all
Santas in his eyes and have made our family very complete. It was love at
first sight or should I say lick. This is better medicine for our spirits
than any doctor could prescribe.
Zoey met our other collie Jule and have made quick progress to bond and have
only had one small tiff, while walking ( in the snow). Everyone seems to be
happy, healthy and very open to this new adjustment. She is wonderful. Mary
was right, she is better in person and once she is settled and has us all
figured out, she will make a great candidate for agility and pet therapy.
She has lots of love to share and will receive lots back. Now we hope that
God gives her a long life to share with our family.
We will take pictures and pass them along so you can see her little tail wag
and the happiness in the eyes of the rest of our family.
Thank god for all of you who take the time and make families complete.
With much love and gratitude
Thank you again, and again
Terri and the entire Trapp family
Hey there Mary,
Well he is just one outstanding dog. As I type this he is happily napping
next to my chair. His coat is coming in beautifully - you are right - lots
of sable in the top coat.
Brushing time has become quite an event - he thinks it is big play time,
wiggling and grabbing brushes and towels and sleeves - I'm not sure we ever
really get any serious grooming done but all have a blast (dogs and
children).
He is filling out nicely - mom saves little meat tidbits for him and sends
them over every few day - want to build up his strength; and Sasha is doing
her best to fatten him up from the high chair.
He has been sleeping part of the night on Quinn's bed and the rest at the
top of the stair where he can monitor all the bed rooms - in case someone
has to use the bathroom or get a drink of water - he wants to be on top of
the situation.
Ahh and squirrels - my what can I say - those fat complaisant red fur balls
are much more careful when coming into the back yard. Lets put it this way -
he is young and FAST especially compared to Ellie - and he takes this
squirrel chasing assignment VERY seriously. I think the bulbs I planted last
fall will actually have a chance to bloom and not be rodent food. Ellie has
shown him the ropes but he really needed little coaching.
As for Ellie, she is still Queen Bee, there were a few minor dust ups, and
after one I proceeded to let them both know, in no uncertain terms - while
they were belly up in a submissive position - that I was top dog and they
needed to just get over it and deal. Needless to say there has not been a
bit of trouble since. Ellie still guards her bed and duck but that is fine
as those are hers, Slim has his bed and toys too.
Everyone who has met him just thinks he is the nicest dog, Nick even has
admitted he likes him and he is a good dog (he is just one of those guys who
doesn't want to be overtly gushy about a pet and he likes to grumble).
While Ellie is the usual school dog (helps drop off and pick up the children
from school) Slim has come a few times, oh my, he had such fun, I thought he
was going to turn himself inside out trying to greet a gang of toddlers and
a class or 4 and 5 year olds. He is young and big and wiggly but still he is
very gentle and completely loving and sweet.
Well Mary I guess you can tell he is doing really great and has wiggled his
way completely into all of our lives - I have even caught Ellie playing with
him on several occasions.
I have some picture to be developed and will foreword some along to you when
I get them. I guess you can chalk this one up as a success story - I sure
think so and from the look on Slim's face he thinks so too (he has managed
to open an eye and thump his tail just now).
More later and pictures,
