Tri-State Collie Rescue recently rescued 6 adorable Border Collie puppies. Yes, Border Collies, not Collie-Collies. We had no choice, and here is why…….

On Thanksgiving Day, we received a call about 6 puppies in dire straits from the niece of a woman who had 2 Border Collies that had had 12 puppies. The mother dog had stopped feeding the puppies at two and a half weeks. The owner of the puppies had been in an accident, and the 12 puppies were left uncared for outside with no food in the rain and the cold, and six of the 12 puppies succumbed to the elements and lack of nourishment. The niece of the woman took the remaining 6 puppies, thinking that she could take care of them, only to find that she could not handle the 6 starving puppies either, so she contacted TSCR to see if we could help. But before she would release the puppies to us, she charged us eighty dollars per puppy for reimbursement as she said that she had taken them to the vets and had them wormed and given their first shots. We paid the fee to save them and set up a transport. We found out after the fact that the story of vetting was not true!

On November 26th, our volunteers transported 6 skinny, hungry puppies from Columbus, Ohio to Buffalo, New York to a wonderful volunteer who agreed to take all 6 together and try to nurse them back to health! These puppies were 6 weeks old, but the smallest weighed only 2 pounds, and the largest only 4!

The puppies made it to New York safely, but by early morning on the 27th, the puppies had taken a turn for the worse. The poor babies began to go into shock and have seizures due to hypoglycemia, dehydration, and malnourishment and needed to be rushed to the emergency veterinarian clinic. One was so bad that he was put on oxygen. They were given fluids and antibiotics and put on a special diet to help their malnutrition. Our amazing volunteer stayed up all night with them, and fed them every three hours to help them through the trauma. After a few days, one of the puppies’ stomach was extremely bloated, and although they were all wormed more than once, poor Luna was still not rallying, so back to the vet they all went to be diagnosed with coccydia and fevers, and to be started on more antibiotic medicine for this new illness.

In the past few weeks, on a high-nutrient food that costs 45 dollars per week in order to nurse them back to health, they have now started to eat moistened dry puppy food along with a high-calorie canned food that they are fed 8 times per day. After two weeks of constant monitoring, feeding, and giving them their medications, these adorable babies are starting to rebound and finally beginning to play like puppies should!

Meet Luna, Dazzle, Josie, Blazer, Snowball, Ruffles!

(They will not be ready for adoption for at least a month as we need time for them to gain weight and catch up on their growth.)

While their foster mom gives them abundant love and selfless care for free, their medical costs have not been, and Tri-State Collie Rescue is in urgent need of Sponsors for these adorable, sweet puppies who had such a terrible start in life until we took them into rescue. Their vet, medication and food bills are high and will continue to climb until they are nothing but healthy, happy, normal puppies. Won’t you please consider sending in the gift of a donation for them this Christmas Season?

If you would like to sponsor a particular puppy or make a donation to help out all of the puppies please use the Pay Pal link on the upper left side of the page (in the "Purpose" section put the puppy's name or write "puppies"), or send a check to...
