FOSTERING
TSCR welcomes you to join our group of volunteers. TSCR relies on our foster families to care for our Collies while awaiting their permanent homes. Being a foster family is one of the most rewarding volunteer opportunities. You not only get the joy of seeing your foster Collie begin to shine, but help him to become that very special family member.
BECOMING A FOSTER
Before you become a foster family you will need to fill out our foster application, we will then check your references, you will be interviewed, and a home visit will be done to determine which rescue would best fit your situation, (i.e. age, sex, activity level, short-term or long term foster, etc.).
RECEIVING YOUR FOSTER
The foster dog may be current on all of its vaccinations, heartworm tested, spayed/neutered/ microchipped and any health issue (if any) may have been addressed. In some cases, however, the rescue will be moved directly to a foster and may need to be seen by a vet when he/she comes into rescue, and if that has not been done by the time you receive him/her, please make sure arrangements have been made to get the dog vetted as soon as possible at a veterinarian whose costs have been approved.
TSCR endeavors to provide a supply of heartworm and flea and tick medicine to our fosters, but if at any time you need another month’s supply, please contact us.
If at any time the dog is not working well in your home, please contact the Foster Coordinator and they will make arrangements to find another foster home immediately. While this may take several days it is always best to stay in contact with someone regarding the progress your foster is or isn't making.
WHAT ARE YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES AS A FOSTER FAMILY?
Your main role as a foster family is to love your foster Collie. The foster will be most grateful for lots of love, attention and patience. Collies are very easy going and are not demanding as a rule so they do acclimate to their situations fairly fast. You may need to teach them simple commands such as sit, down, stay and come along with house manners. It is important to keep the collie groomed - brushing weekly while watching t.v. is a great way to bond.
TSCR is responsible for all veterinary care so if you think there is
reason for a foster to be seen by a vet please contact Sharon Goodburn,
740-917-9446 or 614-314-7844 or via email, lassie5900@aol.com
for approval. If you are unable to get in touch with Sharon, please contact Martha at 502-722-1709 or via email,
martha_raymer@hotmail.com or Charlie at 330-688-5105 or via email, colliecoordinator@gmail.com. If it is an emergency and after hours, bring the rescue to
the nearest emergency clinic for treatment. Contact Sharon, Martha, or Charli as soon as
possible to apprise us of the situation.
It is very important that you keep in contact with Charli (foster coordinator) to provide updates on your foster/s.
When you have a potential adopter for your foster/s, please contact the specific adoption coordinator you are working with as well as
Charli with all updates on the foster/s as well as updates on the adoption process. Contact information for all coordinators follows.
